Week of December 7, 2009

Reading- We are working on Unit 4, Character. The students have the pattern statement, process questions, and visual tool. They should be memorizing these. The books that the students are reading are either "Because of Winn-Dixie," "Pictures of Hollis Woods," or "Frindle." Unit 4 Vocabulary Test will be Monday, December 14. Unit 4 Skills and Performance Tests will be Tuesday, December 15.

Math- Ch. 11 Test will be Friday, December 11.

English- Ch. 7 Test will be Thursday, December 10.

Social Studies- We are starting Ch. 5 this week. The students will be given a Northeast States and Capitals Test on Thursday, December 10. They must know where the state is located, the capital of that state, and how to spell the capital and state correctly. The students were given a map last Monday and should be studying it. We will not have a test on Ch. 5; however, we will be reading it and doing work in class for this chapter.

Spelling- Lesson 17 Test Friday. This is our last spelling test for this nine weeks.

Bible Verse- Matthew 1:21 Test Thursday. This is our last Bible verse test for this nine weeks.

Phonics- Pg. 79-86 due Monday, December 14.

All students should have a art smock at school (in their lockers) by TOMORROW!

Our Christmas Party is Thursday, December 17 at 9:45. Look for information in this week's Wednesday folder.

Week of November 30, 2009

Reading- We are starting Unit 4, Character. The students were given the new pattern statement, process questions, and visual tool today. They should be memorizing these. They will be tested on these and the vocabulary before Christmas break. The books that the students will begin reading tomorrow are either "Because of Winn-Dixie," "Pictures of Hollis Woods," or "Frindle." They will find out tomorrow which one they will be reading this unit.

Math- We are starting Ch. 11 this week. Our Ch. 11 Test will be Friday, December 11.

English- We are starting Ch. 7 this week. Our Ch. 7 Test will be Thursday, December 10.

Social Studies- We are starting Ch. 4 this week. The students will be given a Northeast States and Capitals Test on Thursday, December 10. They must know where the state is located, the capital of that state, and how to spell the capital and state correctly. The students were given a map today and should start studying for this now. We will not have a test on Ch. 4; however, we will be reading it and doing work in class for this chapter.

Phonics- Pg. 71-78 due Monday, December 7.

Week of November 16 and 23, 2009

Reading- This unit we are reading Nate Saint (who was a missionary in Ecuador) as a class (instead of having 3 groups reading different books). We will be working on this throughout the month of November. The grades that will come from our Nate Saint unit will be: a vocabulary test, an AR (on the computer) Nate Saint test (these tests will be on Fri. Nov. 20), an Ecuador folder, and a completion grade (their SPECS Log, did they complete their assigned work for each day). We will have an Ecudorian lunch on Nov. 24. There was an email and note sent out last Friday about our lunch. The index card naming the food your child is going to bring is due Thurs. Nov. 19.

Math- Ch. 10 Test Fri. Nov. 20.

English- We are working on our Ecuador folder (which includes a paragraph, fact sheet, flag, and an index card of the food item) this week in English. We had 2 class times in the computer lab to research a topic (chosen by the student) about Ecuador for our paragraph and to do their fact sheet. If these were not finished at school the students must finish them at home and are due Wed. Nov. 18

Social Studies- Ch. 3 Test Thurs. Nov. 19. A study guide was given out today. Please sign it and return it the day of the test, and your child will receive 5 bonus points on their test.

Spelling- Lesson 15 Test Fri. Nov. 20. No spelling the week of Thanksgiving.

Bible Verse- Philippians 4:6b Test Thurs. Nov. 19. No verse the week of Thanksgiving.

Phonics- Pg. 66-70 due Tues. Nov. 24.

Alice in Wonderland- Our class will be attending the play on Fri. Nov. 20 here at SBEC.

We have several tests on Thursday and Friday this week. Start studying now for those.

Week of November 23, 2009

Field Trip- "A Christmas Carol" Mon. Nov. 23. Please meet in the lobby at 8:30am. We will return to school about 11:30.

Ecuadorian Lunch- Tues. Nov. 24. An email and a note were sent out last Friday about this. The students should research an Ecuadorian food item, write it on an index card (due Thurs. Nov. 19), and bring it to school on Tues. Nov. 24 for our lunch.

The students should memorize the pattern statement, process questions, and visual tool. The books we are reading are Blast to the Past, Lost on a Mountain in Maine, and The Toothpaste Millionaire. Vocab Test will be Wed. Oct. 28 and the Skills and Performance Tests will be Thurs. Oct. 29.

Math- We are starting Ch. 9 this week.

English- Ch. 5 Test Mon. Oct. 26. We will be doing some writing the rest of this week.

Social Studies- We are starting Ch. 2 this week.

Spelling- Lesson 12 Test Thurs. Oct. 29.

Bible Verse- Proverbs 17:17 Test Thurs. Oct. 29.

Phonics- Pg. 46-54 due Mon. Nov. 2.

Book Fair this week! Our class will be going on Wed. at 10:15; however, they may also go before and after school.

Chapel Program- Oct. 30 at 8:30.

Field Trip- Boat ride and Mud Island- Oct. 30 after the chapel program. The students should wear their red class t-shirt, jeans, comfortable shoes, and a jacket. Remember to bring a sack lunch.

The students should memorize the pattern statement, process questions, and visual tool. The books we are reading are Blast to the Past, Lost on a Mountain in Maine, and The Toothpaste Millionaire. Vocab Test will be Wed. Oct. 28 and the Skills and Performance Tests will be Thurs. Oct. 29.

Math- Ch. 8 (multiplication and division) Test will be on Thurs. Oct. 22. Continue to practice multiplication facts. We will have a timed test Tues. Oct. 20 and Thurs. Oct. 22. Whoever makes a 100 on Tues. will not have to take it on Thurs.

English- Ch. 5 Test will be Mon. Oct. 26.

Social Studies- Ch. 1 Test will be Fri. Oct. 23.

Spelling- Lesson 11 Test Fri. Oct. 23.

Bible Verse- Colossians 3:17 Test Thurs. Oct. 22.

Phonics- Pg. 46-50 due Mon. Oct. 26.

Reminders: Achievement Tests- Oct. 19-22! If at all possible, please have your child here by 8:05. Each student should bring a water bottle everyday. A small snack will be provided.

Math- We are starting Ch. 8. Continue to practice multiplication facts. We will have a timed test next Tues. and Thurs. Whoever makes a 100 on Tues. will not have to take it on Thurs.

English- We are starting Ch. 5...helping verbs and inverted order.

Social Studies- We are starting Ch. 1 about the different regions.

Spelling- Lesson 10 Test Fri.

Bible Verse- 2 Corinthians 5:17 Test Thurs.

Phonics- Pg. 42-45 due Mon. Oct. 19.

We will practice some this week and begin reading our novels after fall break. The students should being memorizing the pattern statement, process questions, and visual tool. They will be tested on this at the end of the unit.

Math- Practice multiplication facts.

English- Ch. 4 Test Wednesday.

Science- We are finished with science until after Christmas break. We are starting Social Studies Ch. 1 Lesson 1 this week and will continue with social studies until Christmas.

Spelling- I will send the 2nd nine weeks list home in the Wednesday folders.

Bible Verse- I will send the 2nd nine weeks Bible verses home in the Wednesday folders.

Phonics- None.

Reading- We are finishing Unit 2, Main Idea and Supporting Details, this week. The students have a copy of the pattern statement, process questions, and visual tool in their reading folder. They should have these memorized. Vocabulary Test will be Thursday, October 1, and Skills and Performance Tests will be Friday, October 2.

Math- Ch. 4 Test will be Thursday, October 1. Start practicing multiplication and division facts.

English- We are starting Ch.4 this week. Ch. 4 Test will be on Wednesday, October 7. The students should be memorizing all of the prepositions found on pg. 100. They must say these to me by Friday, October 2.

Science- Ch. 11 Test Wednesday, September 30.

Spelling- Lesson 7 Test Friday. This is the last one for this 1st nine weeks.

Bible Verse- Hebrews 10:25a Test Wednesday. Bible Class- Test is on Monday, October 5.

Phonics- pg. 37-41 due Monday, October 5.

Journals #1-10 are due Wednesday. The list is posted on the board at school.

Library- Don’t forget to practice reading your Easy Book so you will be ready to read to the kindergarden students on Friday. You must bring the book Friday or you will not be able to read to a student.

Vocabulary Test will be Thursday, October 1, and Skills and Performance Tests will be Friday, October 2.

Math- We are starting Ch. 4 this week. Ch 4 Test will be Thursday, October 1.

English- Ch. 3 Test Thursday. The students should be memorizing all of the prepositions found on pg. 100. They must say these to me by Friday, October 2.

Science- We are starting Ch. 11 this week. Ch. 11 Test will be Wednesday, September 30.

Spelling- Lesson 6 Test Friday.

They should be memorizing these. They will be on their tests at the end of the Unit. The books we are reading this week are: How Do Birds Find Their Way?, Earthquakes, Floating in Space.

Math- Ch. 3 Test will be on Thursday, September 17. We are having our first subtraction timed test on Tuesday. Each student who does not make a 100 will take it again on Thursday. I will take the students' highest score.

English- We are beginning Ch. 3 this week. The students should be memorizing all of the prepostions found on pg. 100. They must say these to me by Friday, October 2.

Science- Ch. 4 Test will be on Tuesday, September 15. Then we will be starting Ch. 11.

Spelling- Lesson 5 Test Friday.

Bible Verse- Titus 3:1 Test Thursday.

Phonics- pg. 25-30 due Monday, September 21.

Book Report- The sandwich report is due Friday, September 18. The students can turn it in early if they choose to do so.

Homecoming- Friday, September 18. The students can wear Jeans & SBEC Spirit wear; however, they may not come with “sprayed” hair. We are going to have a picnic lunch, so please send a sack lunch, caned drink, and a beach towel with your child on Friday.

Come out and support your Trojan football team at 7:00pm on Friday!

Math- We are working on Ch. 3 this week. Ch. 3 Test will be on Thursday, September 17. We are having our first addition timed test on Tuesday. Each student who does not make a 100 will take it again on Thursday. I will take the students' highest score.

English- We will finish Ch. 2 this week and have our test on Thursday.

Science- We are working on Ch. 4 this week. Ch. 4 Test will be on Tuesday, September 15.

Spelling- Lesson 4 Test will be on Thursday this week since the students will not be here on Friday.

Bible Verse- Romans 10:13 Test Thursday.

Phonics- pg. 21-24 due Monday, September 14.

Book Report- The students are suppose to have a chapter book that they are reading. I am going to send home the paper (we are going to create a sandwich) in the Wednesday folders. The directions are very clearly stated on the sandwich sheets.

About Me

My name is Ashley Bledsoe. I grew up in Memphis, TN with my incredible parents and brother. I started going to school at SBEC in the 2nd grade, and graduated there in 2003. I went to Northwest and then to the University of Mississippi where I graduated in 2007. I got married in June of 2006 to an amazing guy, Jordan, who is a civil engineer. We love to travel and have been to several awesome places! This is my 3rd year to teach 4th grade at SBEC. I enjoy working with kids...there is always something new and fun happening each day. My husband and I are members of LHBC where we are very involved.
