Week of May 17, 2010

Wednesday- Field day 9:30-11:30. Students should wear their red class t-shirt with comfortable shorts and tennis shoes. Field day is from 9:30-11:30 and a snack will be provided half way through the events. After field day, we will have a picnic, so students should bring a sack lunch and a beach towel.

Thursday- Honors day 8:45. Parents are invited to our room after honors day. I will be presenting gifts to the students.

Friday- 6th grade promotion 8:45.

Do to so many activities this week, during class we are working on our portfolios, finishing up reading by doing our intellectual art, reviewing, and cleaning out desks and lockers.

There are NO more tests this year!

Week of May 10, 2010

Reading- We are working on a review unit for F&F. We are reviewing each skill and visual tool that the students have learned this year. They will have to know them in 5th grade, so we are taking the last few weeks of school to do a review unit. Most students chose "Titanic Crossing" as their review book. A few students chose to read "Number the Stars." We will not have any more tests in reading this year; however, there will be some more grades taken such as the students' book reports and phonics.

Math- We are continuing to work on decimals this week.

English- We are working on poetry this week in class.

Social Studies- 50 Capitals Test Thurs. May 13. The students will be given the state, and they must write the correct capital beside it. They must also spell the capitals correctly.

Spelling- Capitals Test Thurs. May 13. The students must know how to spell all 50 capitals correctly. This is our LAST spelling test for this year!

Bible Verse- Deut. 13:4 Test Thurs. This is our LAST verse for this year!

Phonics- Pg. 174-192 due Fri. May 21.

May 14-End of the Year Party. Parents, please meet us in the lobby at 10:30!
May 19- Field Day. Parents, please meet us down by the football field at 8:45!

Week of May 3, 2010

Reading- We are starting a review unit for F&F. We are reviewing each skill and visual tool that the students have learned this year. They will have to know them in 5th grade, so we are taking the last few weeks of school to do a review unit. Most students chose "Titanic Crossing" as their review book. A few students chose to read "Number the Stars." We will not have any more tests in reading this year; however, there will be some more grades taken such as the students' book reports and phonics.

Math- We are working on decimals in math.

English- Post Test will be Wed. May 5. This is a review of 4th grade English. We will be reviewing in class prior to Wed.

Social Studies- 50 States Test Fri. May 7. The students must know where the state is located and how to spell each state. 50 Capitals Test Thurs. May 13. The students will be given the state and they must write the correct capital beside it. They must also spell the capitals correctly.

Spelling- States Test Fri. May 7. The students must know how to spell all 50 states correctly.
Capitals Test Thurs. May 13. The students must know how to spell all 50 capitals correctly. These will be the last 2 spelling test for this year!

Bible Verse- Deut. 6:6-7a Test Thurs.

Phonics- Pg. 169-173 due Mon. May 10.

Book Report book needs to be read by Wed. May 5. The students should not turn their book report books in until Fri. May 7.

The books the students have finished are either "Inventing the Future: A Photobiography," "Click! A Story about George Eastman," or "Walking the Road to Freedom." Our Vocabulary Test is Wed. April 28, and our Skills and Performance Tests is Thurs. April 29.

Math- Ch. 18 Quiz Tues. April 27. The student also have flash cards for this chapter. They should know them.

English- Ch. 14 Test will be Wed. April 28.

Social Studies- Midwest States and Capitals Test Tues. April 27. The students must know where the state is located and how to spell each state and capital.

Spelling- Lesson 33 Test Fri.

Math- Ch. 17 Quiz Fri. April 16. The student have flash cards for this chapter. They will be on the test.

English- Ch. 13 Test will be Wed. April 14.

The books the students are reading are either "Blue Jasmine," Baseball Fever," or "A Week in the Woods." Our Vocabulary Test will be Thurs. April 8, and our Skills and Performance Tests will be Fri. April 9.

Math- Ch. 22 Test Wed. April 7. Then we will begin geometry.

English- We started Ch. 13 today. Ch. 13 Test will be Wed. April 14.

Social Studies- We finished our state report today in class. States and Capitals Test Tues. (TOMORROW). The students must know where the state is located and how to spell each state and capital. We will begin Ch. 7 this week (no chapter tests this nine weeks).

Spelling- No Spelling Test this week because we have so many other tests.

Bible Verse- 2 Peter 1:21 Test Thurs. The students must say the OT books of the Bible by April 15 and the NT books of the Bible by April 22.

English- Our writing assessment will be Tues. March 30 from 8:45-9:45 and Thurs. April 1 (this is a change due to several being out on Wed.) from 9:45-10:45. Please make sure your child does not miss these days. We will begin Ch. 13 on Mon. April 5.

Social Studies- We will work on Ch. 7 this week (We will not have any chapter test this nine weeks. Our tests will be on the states and capitals.) Southeast states and capitals test will be Tues. April 6. The students must know where the states are located and how to spell the states and capitals correctly. State float is due Thurs. April 1. We will be providing lunch (state lunch) on Thurs. April 1; however, students need to bring a drink.

Spelling- Lesson 30 Test Thurs.

Bible Verse- Luke 24:7 Test Thurs. The students must say the OT books of the Bible by April 15 and the NT books of the Bible by April 22.

Math- Ch. 21 Test Wed. Then we will begin Ch. 22 on Thurs.

English- Ch. 12 Test tomorrow. Then we will be working on writing. Our writing assessment will be Tues. March 30 from 8:45-9:45 and Wed. March 31 from 11:45-12:45. Please make sure your child does not miss these days.

Social Studies- We will work on Ch. 6 this week (We will not have any chapter test this nine weeks. Our tests will be on the states and capitals.) Southeast states and capitals test will be Tues. April 6. The students must know where the states are located and how to spell the states and capitals correctly (a map will go home tomorrow). State float is due Thurs. The books the students are reading are either "Loser," Afternoon of the Elves," or "My Brother Made Me Do It." The Vocabulary Test will be March 11, and the Skills and Performance Tests will be March 12. This will be our last unit before Spring Break.

Math- We are working on Ch. 21, but we will not have time to test on it before Spring Break. Ch. 21 Test will be either Tuesday, March 23 or Wednesday, March 24.

English- We are working on Ch. 12, but we will not have time to test on it before Spring Break. Ch. 12 Test will be Tuesday, March 23.

Science- We are reading and studying Ch. 15 this week, but we will not have a test on it.

Spelling- None this week.

Bible Verse- None this week.

Phonics- None this week.

Book Report- The students should finish reading their book report book by Wednesday, March 10. We will be doing all the work in class this time for their book report.

Spring Pictures- We have our Spring Pictures this Wednesday at 10:30. The students should wear nice clothes. They may NOT wear jeans and t-shirts.
Math Pie Day- On Friday, we will be having a picnic in our classroom. The pizza will be provided, but each student needs to bring a drink and beach towel. Information will be sent home in the Wednesday folders about this.

Math- Ch. 15 Test will be Tues. March 2. We will be going on to Ch. 21 (Ch. 21 will be our last chapter before Spring Break) after our Ch. 15 Test.

English- Ch. 11 Test will be Tues. March 2. Then we will begin and finish Ch. 12 before Spring Break.

Science- Ch. 14 Test will be Wed. March 3. (Our last science test of the school year! We will be starting Social Studies after Spring Break.) We will read and study Ch. 15, but we will not have a test on it.

Spelling- Lesson 27 Test Fri. This is our last Spelling Test for this 9 weeks.

Bible Verse- Ephesians 6:17 Test Thurs. This is our last Bible Verse Test for this 9 weeks.

Phonics- Pg. 128-132 due Mon. March 8.

English- We are starting Ch. 11, Pattern 4 this week. Ch. 11 Test will be Tues. March 2. We will finish through Ch. 12 before Spring Break.

Science- We are still working on Ch. 14. Ch. 14 Test will be Wed. March 3.

Spelling- Lesson 26 Test Fri. and Lesson 27 next Fri. (Lesson 27 will be our last test before Spring Break).

The skills and performances tests for this unit will be Thursday February 11.

Math- Ch. 13 Test Tuesday. Then we will be starting Ch. 14 (more division).

English- Ch. 9 Test Thursday. (Pattern 3 and Quotations) We will be starting Ch. 10 next Monday.

Science- Ch. 13 Test Friday. The students will receive their study guide on Wednesday. If a parent signs it, and it is returned the day of the test, the student will receive 5 bonus points on the test.

Spelling- Lesson 22 Test Friday.

Bible- Verse Romans 5:1 Test Thursday. Bible Class- 5 paragraph essay due Thursday.

Phonics- Pg. 104-109 due Mon. Feb. 1

The books that the students are reading are either "Bandit's Moon," "All the Way Home," or By the Great Horn Spoon." We are also doing the character bubble map from our last unit. Vocabulary test for this unit will be Thursday, January 21. The skills and performances tests for this unit will be Friday, January 22.

Math- We are working on Ch. 13, division. Our Ch. 13 Test will be Tuesday, January 26. The students must know their multiplication facts in order to do well with division. Continue to practice these at home.

English- We are working on Ch. 9, patter 3 and quotation marks. Our Ch. 9 Test will be Thursday, January 28.

Science- We are working on Ch. 13. Our Ch. 13 Test will be Friday, January 29.

Spelling- Lesson 23 Test Friday.

Bible Verse- Romans 8:5 Test Thrusday.

Phonics- Pg. 99-103 due Monday, January 25.

Science- We will have science this nine weeks. We are starting Ch. 12, which is very short. Ch. 12 Test Monday, January 11.

Spelling- Lesson 20 Test Friday.

Bible- Romans 3:23 Test Thursday. Class Test on the 2nd and 3rd Missionary Notes will be on Monday, January 11.

My name is Ashley Bledsoe. I grew up in Memphis, TN with my incredible parents and brother. I started going to school at SBEC in the 2nd grade, and graduated there in 2003. I went to Northwest and then to the University of Mississippi where I graduated in 2007. I got married in June of 2006 to an amazing guy, Jordan, who is a civil engineer. We love to travel and have been to several awesome places! This is my 3rd year to teach 4th grade at SBEC. I enjoy working with kids...there is always something new and fun happening each day. My husband and I are members of LHBC where we are very involved.
